6 Days Hanoi Cycling To Hagiang Mountain

A 6-day cycling expedition from Hanoi to the Ha Giang mountains combines a shuttle transfer, over 300 km of high-grade mountain biking, and climbs across iconic northern limestone passes. Ha Giang is the final frontier in northern Vietnam an amazing landscape of limestone pinnacles and granite outcrops. The far north of the province has some of the most spectacular scenery in the country, and the trip between Yen Minh and Dong Van, and then across the Mai Pi Leng Pass to Meo Vac is quite mind-blowing. Ha Giang should be one of the most popular destinations in this region, but its proximity to the Chinese border still keeps visitor numbers at a low level.
Day 1: Hanoi to Ha Giang City (The Gateway) 🚴‍♂️

  • Transfer Distance: 260 km (morning vehicle transfer to bypass heavy highway traffic)
  • Cycling Distance: 40 km (warm-up afternoon ride)

Route: 7:30 AM pick up from your hotel and Leave Hanoi early via support van, heading north to the sleepy provincial capital of Ha Giang. Unload the bikes mid-afternoon for a smooth, undulating warm-up loop along the banks of the Lo River to dial in your gears before the big climbs begin.

Stay: Homesta in Ha Giang C( Private room) ( L , D )

Day 2: Ha Giang City to Tam Son / Quan Ba (Heaven’s Gate)

  • Cycling Distance: 47 km

Route: Your first true test. The road begins with a gentle climb along the river before hitting a continuous, predictable, but steep gradient. Find your rhythm early as you power up to the famous Heaven’s Gate Pass (Quan Ba). Stop at the summit for panoramic views of the iconic Twin Mountains before a short, sweeping descent into the small hillside community of Tam Son.

Stay: Local hotel in Tam Son.( B, L, D )

Day 3: Tam Son to Yen Minh & Dong Van (Into the Karst Plateau)

  • Cycling Distance: 80 km

Route: A long, spectacular day starting with an early bowl of noodles. You will drop down a minor road to the valley floor, riding through remote hill-tribe villages and lively morning markets. After crossing the river, the main climb begins. As you enter the UNESCO-protected Dong Van Karst Plateau, the scenery turns mind-blowing—sheer limestone walls and jagged peaks stretching as far as the eye can see.

Stay: Hotel in Dong Van Old Town.( B, L, D )

Day 4: Dong Van to Meo Vac - Bao Lac (The Legendary Ma Pi Leng Pass)

  • Cycling Distance: 90 km

Route: Short on kilometers but massive on rewards. Today you tackle the crown jewel of northern Vietnam: the Ma Pi Leng Pass. This 10km stretch clings precariously to the cliff face, overlooking the emerald Nho Que River flowing through the deep canyon thousands of feet below. It's an optical illusion of a climb where the valley floor drops away as fast as you ascend. After soaking in the views, make the thrilling descent into Meo Vac.

Physics works in your favor today. After a brief morning climb out of Meo Vac to clear the ridge, it’s pure reward time: a continuous 30 km descent on well-paved roads. You will feel the climate warm up significantly as you drop into the lowlands, spending the afternoon navigating a rolling terrain of gentle ups and downs through quiet, sleepy riverside villages before rolling into Bao Lac.

Stay: Hotel in Bao Lac.( B, L, D )
