3 Days Mekong Biking To Cao Lanh - Sa Dec -Can Tho

Mekong Biking To Cao Lanh - Sa Dec -Can Tho the delta’s largest city and yet another popular base for boat-trips and visits to floating markets. From here it’s possible to take a loop-trip around the southern half of the delta area; first up is the Khmer stronghold of Soc Trang, a visit to which is especially rewarding if your journey coincides with the colourful Oc Om Bok festival (November or December), during which the local Khmer community takes to the river to stage spectacular longboat races.

Day 1: Saigon – XeoQuyt forest - Cao Lanh (L/D) (40 km)
8:00 AM pick up from your hotel and two hour transfer to the south from Sai Gon and you could be on another planet. You’ll find yourself on quiet country back roads and tracks skirting the edges of winding creeks and fields of rice, observing the activity at markets alongside canals, and breathing clean air all the way to near Xeo Quyt. Xeo Quyt was the heart of the Viet Cong resistance to the U.S. and her allies in Dong Thap Province during the American War (1963-75).  We’ll need to take ferries to get to the area of the former Xeo Quyt base, which lies under the canopy of a huge cajuput forest. From there a former Viet Cong soldier who was stationed  there will take us by rowboat to see the actual base and its small tunnel network, and relate the story of his and his comrades’ time there as we consider the sacrifices made, before heading off for lunch. Then it’s back on the bikes for more scenic touring, ending up in Cao Lanh Town, where we’ll take refreshments, dinner and a well-earned sleep..

Day 2: Cao Lanh - Sadec – CanTho ( B/L/D) (30 - 90 km)
Get some carbs in at breakfast for the ferry ride across the Mekong, and then the ride through plantation after plantation of ornamental flowers, to Sa Dec, one of the last remnants of old Indochina in Viet Nam, still displaying it’s French architectural heritage in French-built villas along the canal. There’s a really old Chinese temple there too, if that’s your thing, and some amazing brick kilns (really!). We’ll have lunch here before heading off through more wonderfully scenic country, see flower growers tending their gardens, with more rice fields and sweet potato plantations as we approach Can Tho, the ‘capital’ of the delta region, where we will have dinner and stay the night.

Day 3: Can Tho – Saigon. (B/L/) (30 km)
It’s said that from a high vantage point in Can Tho you can see rice growing all the way to the horizon. Amongst all that rice is a maze of waterways connecting villages to other villages, and all of them converging on Can Tho, home to the biggest, bustlingest Floating Market in the delta, the Cai Rang Market. Don’t forget your camera, this market is mind-blowing! Breakfast, coffee, a bus transfer and a ferry will get us to Vinh Long town. Where is the last day' cycling begins with taking a ferry to An Binh Island, where we’ll start a fantastic ride taking in some great tropical orchards and creek crossings, to Cai Be town. Lunch finished, If we have more time, we’ll saddle up for the last leg of the tour, an invigorating, intoxicating ride through tropical fruit orchards to Cai Be township. Take in the scent of the various fruits as you enjoy cycle touring at it’s very best!  Return to Ho Chi Minh City for check in - End The Tour .
